The phpBB FAQ before contacting a staff member.
What is this? Simple. It is a roleplaying game. There are lots of types of roleplaying games out there, but AS:MM is a free-form play-by-post game that focuses on your literary skills and imagination. It's like a great- big multi-faceted-fan-fiction-orgy. But even better.
Why can't I post anywhere?Because you have to be registered to post. If you have already registered, please make sure you are signed in.
How do I sign up?You click the above link that says, 'register' and follow the on-screen instructions.
What should I do then? You should, please, read all the information topics marked with *.
Next, copy the application form into a word processor and fill it out to the best of your ability. It is recommended that you regularly check the Announcements forum for important information regarding the site or recent events - I try to provide you with as much information as I can, so that you don't have too many questions left unanswered. However, if you have any questions about our application or our process, please don't hesitate to
contact a staff member.
One account per player or one account per character? One account per player, please. This is more user-friendly for those of us with 6+ characters on the board, and if people want to know who plays who they can either ask, or look at the roster in the accepted forum.
What Happens to Applications When a Player Leaves?Unless specifically instructed to do otherwise, if a player vanishes or announces that they are leaving, AS:MM does not delete their character applications, nor their login. We move applications to a forum visible only to members (dormant) so that if a player returns they can painlessly retrieve their applications and resume play. A player
must instruct staff directly to remove an application if they do not want it to show up on the board any longer.
How do I put a picture in my signature?Easy-peasy. Go to profile, and in the signature put this:
Code:
[center][img]signature url here[/img][/center]
Please remember that ASMM frowns upon hotlinking, so make sure you get an account with
Photobucket.com if you are going to have a picture signature, or avatar.
If you are worried about how to show a signature for each character, you can create yourself the above code for each character and put it into a notepad file or word document and just copy/paste the relevant signature at the bottom of your post.
What is the time frame? We are working in real time, with the month and general weather marked at the top of the board for your convenience.
Do you allow threads over email or AIM/MSN?Of course! But I also encourage you to copy/paste those sessions onto the board for everyone to read, otherwise no one will know if anything substantial took place. Don't forget that this is a play-by-post RPG, so you should use the forum as your main source of roleplaying.
What level are the writing skills of the players? We strive for good SPAG (spelling, punctuation and grammar), or at least obvious effort. All our players so far have a knack for character development, plot interaction and creation, initiative and the ability to know, 'good idea', from, 'unrealistic idea'. As a new player, you should be ambitious and willing to learn.
How many threads can I be in at once? You can be in as many threads as you like with the same character so long as you date/time them and make sure you don't accidentally place them in two threads at the same date/time unless you're continuing one thread elsewhere.
So what is AS:MM based off?Ah, AS:MM is a spin-off of the game Aeternus Sapientia University, which shut down in 2005/2006 after suffering from a server malfunction, then myself, the admin, having to deal with real life in a big fat all-consuming sort of way. The game ran from 2003-2005/2006. It enjoyed a plethora of talented writers with a thorough application process to ensure a high quality of gaming. It even had its very own url and everything!
But Rowling says there aren't any Universities...Which is precisely why this is an AU (alternate universe).
So are you canon? We're semi-canon. How canon can an AU RPG be, anyway? AS:MM follows the books up to The Order of the Phoenix and from there it does it's own thing. The original game began just after the book came out, and by the time The Half-Blood Prince was released, ASU had developed far too much plot-wise that it was too much work and too time consuming to alter the entire game's reality for the sake of the 6th book. We do, however, take the Lore that comes from this book, and we will do the same for the final one, but we leave the plot with JKR.
When is it set?I hope this is obvious - it's set in 2012 in Wizarding Britain.
Who are the British National Party?Otherwise known as the BNP. In this game, they are a far right-wing political party. In modern day Britain they only have standing within local Government, not National, but in this game, they have gained considerably more standing and have seats in National Government. I should also add that the events, beliefs and motives of the BNP in this game have been exaggerated to suit our needs in-game. The names of the leaders have been invented and do not reflect actual BNP or Labour Party members.
Where did this idea originate from? It's an idea that's been sitting with me since late 2003. It was just an inkling back then but as the game went on, the idea of Wizards facing off muggles after Voldemort was defeated seemed like a realistic path to take. Over the last two years I've been nurturing the idea and developing it privately, sharing the plot with probably only three people. It was after some significant pleading and pushing that I got the courage to launch the game as it is now. If it works, fantastic! if it doesn't...It was well worth a shot!
What do I do if I want to use some of your information for my site?If in doubt, ask. My email/messengers are attached to my profile, so do approach me if you're unsure. However, the following information is available for you to use on your own board, provided copyrights are put in place, preferably with a link back to this game:
- Briticisms
- Rules (Inc. Advertising)
- Application Form
- Helpful Links
- Essays on Writing/Roleplay
Be sure to take out any AS:MM specifics as there are a couple.
